Caernarfon Castle The Bath Tower South windows North windows

King Edward intended Caernarfon castle to be a royal residence and seat of government for north Wales. The castle's symbolic status was emphasized when Edward made sure that his son, the first English Prince of Wales, was born here in 1284. In 1969, the castle gained worldwide fame as the setting for the investiture of HRH Prince Charles as Prince of Wales.

The Bath tower is part of the catle walls and is owned and managed by The Landmark Trust, who restore and care for historic buildings and let them as holiday accomodation. We were approached to carry out the restoration and repair of 12 of the living area windows whilst a programme of renovation is being undertaken.

The south facing windows were in poor condition with unprofessional repairs carried out on them previously. The leaded windows were also allowing the ingress of water. The original bronze opening frames were in good condition and require minimal work. The leaded windows will be dismantled and re-leaded, re-cemented to ensure they are weatherproof prior to re- installation.
